April Fools

So a lot of people sent me emails, texts, Twitters, Facebook and Myspace messages concerned about how my website got hacked for April Fools day.  Well… I “hacked” it myself.  If you missed checking out DBB yesterday, after the page started loading, the site was immediately redirected to THIS IMAGE.  I wanted to make my site look exactly like one of those Myspace spam pages.  It looked pretty great I think… probably too good since everyone thought it was real.  I got an email from someone who is working on trying to get some good advertising on the site and he and his boss looked at my site  yesterday only to find that someone had hacked it.  Oops.  If you guys had just clicked the porn spam you would have been directed back to the site, but alas… not everyone figured that out.

I was pretty into it, but it was pretty spur of the moment.  I had some other ideas for April Fools jokes but they didn’t really work out.  I think my joke last year was the best so far.  I had a TON of people think I was actually stabbed… Some people even blogged about it.  I even went as far as wearing a bandage over my stomach the first few days I went out after the 1st last year… Although the most time I spent on an April Fools joke was when in 2002 if you tried to go to my site you ended up on this one instead.  I spent quite a bit of time crafting that beauty, so I hope you will take another look.

Lastly, we are taking a break from SXSW coverage to bring  you party photos from Tuesday and Wednesday and I will be getting to those in about 10 hours when I wake up.  In the mean time, enjoy the embarrassing media coverage of one of my favorite April Foolers…. Improv Everywhere.  You would have thought that at least their fans would have been in on the joke… Jesus people are gullible.

Juliette Lewis & The New Romantiques – 3.20.09

The headliners of the West Rocks party was Juliette Lewis with her new band the New Romantiques (No more Juliette & The Licks I guess). I have had a crush on Ms. Lewis as long as I can remember and during CMJ I saw her outside of Arlo & Esme. I had like a 10 minute conversation with her about miracle fruit and other randomness. She hugged me a lot. I sort of fell in love. After her band played I gave her my card as she was leaving and she remembered me which was nice, but I didn’t get to talk to her at all. These lesbian super fans who were there got pictures with her and stuff and were screaming the whole time. And these gay guys yelled out “You made me straight!” She has quite the cross over audience. It was pretty rad. The show itself was nuts. She is super crazy and it was a lot of fun. She was an amazing singer which I am not sure I expected. I expected her to be a great front woman, and she was but as an encore she did a blues song and she fucking killed it. I was standing back stage with a few people when it happened and we were all just staring at each other like “Holy shit.” But yeah, the whole West Rocks show was a lot of fun and I feel like if I am ever in London when their party is going down I will hit that up.

Check out all the Juliette Lewis photos out by clicking here. I don’t know about you, but I am kinda in love.

Playhouse – 2.25.09

Due to my growing addiction to the internet and an inopportune stop by the police I was really late for Playhouse at Cain last night.  I was already running a bit late, when I drove up 3rd Avenue like a maniac swerving in and out of cars like I was in the Kentucky Derby (if the Kentucky Derby involved cars).  Suddenly I look behind me and there is a cab with police lights pulling me over.  Taxi cops!  I didn’t get a cash cab, or a taxi cab confession, I got two cops shining their flashlights on me asking me if I had any weapons, like bats or knives inside my car.  After a holding me there for a while, they came back all nice and told me to get my break light fixed.  Woops.

Anyway, the party was fun even though I was late.  I made up for it and basically closed the bar down.   There were a bunch of cute 18 year old girls all making out with each other which makes for generally cheesy photos, but was pretty fun.  And you know, maybe some other people got in on the action… other people that happen to run this website… Seriously though, it’s okay.  I can make out with a bunch of girls 10 years younger than me because it is SPRING BREAK 2000!!!  Wooo!! What happens at Playhouse stays at Playhouse… unless I blog about it.  Fuck.

There are photos here.
