I am headed out of town this weekend and then I am back for two days and then I am off to LA for a couple of weeks. I have no idea when I am gonna have time to update over the next few weeks (don’t worry, I will get something up) so I figured I would give you guys not one, but TWO galleries to gawk at while I am busy traveling: Sammie Six and Bunny Colby.

These shoots have a lot in common anyway. I shot them both in Vegas in January during AVN Awards week, they both feature rad girls with rad “enhancements” and the photos happen to be unusually tame for photos of porn stars. They were also two of the earliest shoots I did with my new camera and were a little bit underexposed because I wasn’t used to the digital viewfinder on my camera. I realize that is completely boring but if I don’t make excuses for my mediocre photography is it even a proper Driven By Boredom post?

Bunny Colby seems really great from the short time we spent together. I have followed her on Twitter for a while and she has a couple of those amazing Wilford Brimley cats and when she’s not making dirty movies she rescues cats for a living. It was fun hanging out while we were shooting, but unfortunately I think we were talking too much because we didn’t finish the shoot. Unfortunately in the middle of the shoot I got an urgent text and had to run out which was a total bummer. Hopefully we will get to finish the shoot one of these days.

Sammie Six is not Sammie Sixx another model I photographed many years ago. She is however a skateboarder who I really want to shoot skating nude one day. We had been trying to shoot for a few years but didn’t get the chance until we had a few minutes of free time in Vegas. She had access to a suite at the Hard Rock that had these great stairs that we shot on. The lighting wasn’t great but we managed and she told me the photos were some of the best images she’s taken as far as capturing who she really is, which is about the best possible compliment I could be given. She’s only a few hours from LA so maybe I can convince her to finally shoot those skateboarding photos with me in a week or two…

I don’t use lights very often in my photography. Studio lighting is pretty boring to me. I get it, my work suffers because of it. Sometimes I am using just completely garbage light to get shots that I could set up in 10 minutes with lighting or even something as simple as a little bounce light would be enough, but it’s just not for me. I am looking for the spontaneous moments and it’s a lot harder to capture real life when you have a bunch of gear set up. Or maybe I am just lazy, I’m not sure.

That being said, I do occasionally use lights. I needed lights to shoot a bunch of puppies and celebrities very quickly for Fox Searchlight last year and I ended up putting a cheap LED lighting kit into the budget because my real light setup is so unnecessarily huge and honestly I never want to deal with it. I wanted to practice with it before the shoot and luckily Heidi V was in town.

I photographed Heidi V at AVN or some other adult convention years ago. She’s an Australian cam girl and I just remembered her from a random shot of her at the convention. I didn’t talk to her or anything, but I sort of knew who she was. Meanwhile, my friend was in town and she told me that I should come get food with her and her cam girl friend Heidi. Turns out it was the same girl that I had photographed way back when. We got some food and I showed em around the city a bit and then we talked about taking some photos. I ran home to get my lights so I could practice with em and headed over to the Air BNB that Heidi had rented.

The only problem was that I didn’t have a bag for my lights since I had just bought them. I just grabbed one light and one stand and headed out the door. If you know anything about lighting you know that you really need a second light to get rid of the harsh shadow caused by the first light, but my hatred of carrying gear struck again and I figured I could wing it. That was stupid.

So since I hate doing studio photography, and since I only used one light for some reason I didn’t even bother looking at these photos for a full as year. Still, as I was looking at my list of photo shoots I have yet to publish, this one kept jumping out at me because it’s now the oldest shoot I haven’t put up. 

So last night I finally sucked it up and went through these photos. Fortunately Hedi is adorable enough and we took enough photos that we ended up getting a bunch of stuff worth looking at. We also shot a second mini shoot that ended up on Girls of DBB a long as time ago. And there a few photos of her butt from this shoot that are exclusive to Girls of DBB too. So like, if you wanna see her butt you gotta pay up, or just google her or something. 

Lastly, I just wanted to shout out Hedi cause she rules. Back in January I got to Vegas for the AVN Awards hours before my girlfriend did and she’s the one who booked our hotel room so I had no way of checking in until she got to town. I started Tweeting at people and Hedi told me I could leave my stuff in her room and even trusted me to have a key so I could grab my stuff when I needed it. I really appreciated it, plus we took some random photos with her friend Kristie Bish, so that was cool. Thanks Heidi!

I am going to Las Vegas for the AVN Awards tomorrow so I wanted to get up some new photos before I left. For updates from my AVN Week trip, make sure you follow me on Twitter and Instagram and think about backing my new limited edition book on Kickstarter… 

One of the nice things about living in Brooklyn is that there are always a bunch of great people just a few stops away on the subway, so when I got a new camera I texted my friend Stoya and a few minutes later I was in her office trying to figure to work a digital viewfinder. 

I have known Stoya for more than a decade but we have actually only done one proper shoot. I’ve taken her photo a million times but it’s always just some random thing and it has always come out well. Stoya has been a big feature of two of my books including being a main inspiration for my book Dinner With Igor (I took a photo of her drinking a milkshake that somehow went viral) and being the first reward to sell out for my Instaxxx book Kickstarter.

So when I hit up Stoya she had been shooting all day for her new digital magazine Zero Spaces and was pretty exhausted but she was down to take some photos as long as she didn’t have to get up from her desk. I was fully down. When I got there I realized how dark it was in her apartment but this was a perfect test of the crazy ISO of my new Nikon Z6. I started out shooting at 10,000 (if you don’t know about cameras please ignore this part) which looked great before bumping it down to 5000 ISO which is still way higher than I would go on my Nikon D810 which cost nearly double what the Z6 did. When I got the photos home I realized 10,000 ISO looked great and I can’t wait to see how high I can push it. 

There’s some stuff I don’t like about the camera, but maybe it’s just stuff I am not used to yet (like the digital viewfinder), but I got this thing to shoot some video, so I guess the real test will be when (or if) I start shooting video. Still I really like the camera for portraits and I haven’t quite given up using it to shoot for events. I think I just need to get used to it.

Anyway, these photos were just a test and there aren’t a ton of them and they aren’t that exciting, I was just playing with stuff, but Stoya is great and people seem to love photos of her so I figured I would post these photos while I am out of town for a week and you can check them out in the meantime.

I got some new photos for you that are new in that they are from this calendar year. I met Evelyn in Vegas which seems to be the place I meet most people I shoot because of that whole AVN Awards thing. It sort of works like this, some cute lady on the internets will follow me and I will lurk them and find out they get naked on the internet and I follow them back and then a few months later I find out they are going to be in Vegas in January for AVN and then I hit them up or run into them at the hotel and say “hey let’s go take photos upstairs for 20 minutes” and then 10 months later you get to see the photos because I am so backed up with content that I never get around to posting anything in a timely matter.

So yeah, this is Evelyn Claire. She’s real photogenic. We shot these photos in her hotel room and we finished the shoot so fast I shot her again in her AVN dress so she’d have some nice photos in that so it’s really two shoots in one, okay, that’s not really true given it’s in the exact same place in the exact same room and she looks exactly the same in both shoots. And also there’s some photos of her in a leather jacket too so like is that three different shoots? No, of course not. So, it’s been decided. One shoot, three outfits, plenty of photos for you to look at.

Also, I put these up on Girls of Driven By Boredom yesterday so that I would have a good reason to promote my paid site because the network that hosts it is having a 30% off sale. Another year down! My photos from 2016 are properly organized and I have already moved on to 2017 although I am only a couple months in. Here is a gallery of a bunch of my favorite images from 2016 that you get to look at if you want. It’s over 200 images so it should last you a while as I travel to Ohio to take a bunch of photos of juggalos like I do every year. I will be back Sunday with far too many juggalo photos, so rejoice.

Meanwhile, let’s see how quickly I can write about an entire year worth of photos so that I can start packing for this trip. 

There are a ton of girl photos in here (even more than normal) because I had started working on my Instaxxx book towards the end of the year. There was also the release of my book Public and a topless bar crawl to promote it. Some of this girl stuff is unpublished even and I have two galleries from 2016 that still haven’t been posted. Coming soon. (One of them is already on Girls of Driven By Boredom!)

One of the more impactful moments of 2016 was the night that Prince died. Spike Lee went threw a block party in his honor and I made my way to the front right as they played When Doves Cry and everyone was singing a long. It was a really amazing moment and I uploaded a video to my Instagram and somehow Good Morning America found it and bought it which made the day incredibly bittersweet. Just to keep it depressing, visiting Stonewall after the Orlando Pulse Nightclub shooting was incredibly moving for me, and the closing of the bar Jarome’s was another nail in the coffin of downtown NYC nightlife. 

Some events seem to have better photos than others: the Sailor Jerry Fleet Week party, the BBQ Films Ghostbusters party and Fool’s Gold Day Off all have more than their fair share of images in here. One of the weirder things I have covered in my life was the Kid Rock Fish Fry in Nashville (and that’s saying a lot) and even weirder news I got hired to shoot something for Teen Vogue. Oh, and I also shot a halloween party for babies. Seriously. And as always there are a ton of photos from my normal yearly gigs, AVN Awards, SXSW and of course the Gathering of the Juggalos.

If you watched the 2017 AVN Awards on Showtime you saw this segment featuring Jillian Janson. You might also have noticed that I am in that segment. In fact we did a whole photo shoot for Showtime to film. In the segment Jillian talks about the first time we shot and a handful of the photos were featured in the video, but weirdly enough I never published those photos myself. This was clearly a mistake and I am making up for it now.

I actually met Jillian in an elevator I think. Someone else introduced us and I honestly don’t even remember what porn convention it was but I remember I brought her one of my zines on the floor the next day and told her I would love to shoot with her and at some point when I was in LA it actually happened. I met her in Santa Monica and shot her under the same boardwalk  where I had ended my epic Route 66 road trip that resulted in my first book. I got some good feelings about that place even if it’s also a complete tourist nightmare.

There are a ton of photos of Jillian in this gallery and most of them aren’t naked because people were watching us shoot and honestly it was a little too cold to be shooting and she was freezing. It was nice outside, but the wind under the boardwalk was fucking up her life. Still her bikini is one of the smaller articles of clothing I have photographed and I don’t think anyone is going to be too mad about these photos. She did get fully naked for a few minutes but most of the other nudity is just the random flash here in there, including a couple slightly too graphic shots that are available only on Girls of Driven By Boredom because I am a monster and want your money. 

Speaking of wanting your money, Jillian signed some original Instax photos for an award for the Kickstarter for my book Instaxxx. The Kickstarter is way over, but I found a few extra signed Instax that didn’t sell and I put them up for sale with the book for the same price as they were on Kickstarter. There’s only one Jillian Instax left so hurry and buy it!

Okay I am done trying to sell you stuff, just go look at these photos of Jillian because she is a babe. I can’t wait to shoot Jillian again when we aren’t in public so I finally have the time to catch her off guard and get some photos of her that aren’t super posed and fancy AF.

These “Best of” posts keep coming as I slowly get all my images organized. The 2013 best of gallery was a bit of a turning point though because at some point during 2013 I got a little more organized and so a lot of the work is already done. It goes a lot faster. I am actually done with 2016 too but I will wait to post the best of 2015 first. But, not one bit of this is interesting so let’s start talking about the reason we are here: 2014.

I think I peaked as a photographer in 2014. I lost my favorite client in the middle of 2014 over some shit that I had very little to do with, and then my life sort of detonated in 2015. I have shot a bunch of stuff that I am fairly proud of since then, but looking back at the first half of 2014 I really shot some stuff I loved. My shoot with Raven Rockette at Rock-a-Hoola and my shoot with April O’Neil and Shay Laren at Murphy’s Ranch were two of my favorite shoots of all time and they happened in the same week! 

Some other highlights of 2014 included following Hannibal Buress when he opened up for Aziz Ansari at Madison Square Garden, hanging out with Iggy Pop in Miami, and watching Joey Chestnut propose at the Coney Island hot dog eating contest. I got to shoot Motley Crue from a million miles away on their “last tour” and I got to shoot Miley Cyrus which was surprisingly enjoyable. I shot MIA and a hologram for a tequila and a ton of fun stuff for Sailor Jerry including the Sailor Jerry House at SXSW. 

I shot a ton of stuff for the Village Voice including two of my favorite assignments of all time, Antiques Roadshow and the Westminster Dog Show. I shot some festivals for them as well including 4 Knots, Fool’s Gold Day Off, and of course the Gathering of the Juggalos. The girl I was dating for a bunch of 2014 was a writer for the Voice and we covered a bunch of stuff together, but the one thing we did together that didn’t end up in the Voice was our trip to the Creation Museum in Kentucky. It was so fucking insane. 

I feel like I got a couple more things left to mention before I let you guys get to the 300+ photos. 2014 Art Basel was the last time I went down there after I managed to somehow lose money. It was still a great trip though and I got to see a Dolphins game so I shouldn’t complain too much. I got to shoot John Amos for an article that I don’t think ever ran, but it was great to meet a legend like that. Speaking of legends I also got to shoot Robert Rodriguez, Robert Duvall and a bunch of other actors and directors not named Robert during the SXSW Film Fest including the cast of Silicon Valley. Oh, also I should mention that I shot this Rockabilly convention in Vegas incase you are wondering what all the insane haircuts are all about. Fair warning. 

The one thing I hate about looking back on all these photos is seeing the people I will never see again. The last photo I ever took of Dust La Rock is in this gallery. My really good friend DJ Jess died three years ago this week. I feel like I don’t have a ton of photos of Spam because he was usually behind a bar working but I found a couple and included one in this gallery. My brother from another mother Denny is in this gallery too. Too many people gone.

Lastly, I  should mention that I only found one naked girl gallery I hadn’t published. That’s a good thing because I have way too many that I still need to publish. The one I did find was of a girl named Alison Faye who left the adult industry shortly after we shot and I just never got around to posting them. The set was fairly small anyway, so I just decided to upload the whole thing to Girls of Driven By Boredom so it’s there if you want to see it.

So, I am headed to Austin, TX tomorrow to cover something like my 14th South By Southwest in a row so I wanted to get some stuff up before I left. I think I am gonna try and get one more post up before I leave because my flight isn’t until 6pm but if I don’t here’s fair warning that I might not update the site much until I get back.

As I continue to slowly crawl through every photo I have ever taken we have reached the end of 2013 and I bring you another Best Of update. I have now gone through every single digital photo I have taken since I got my very first digital camera in 2001 up to December 31st 2013. The good news is that since 2013 I have been way more organized so 2014-present should go a lot faster. 2013 was also the last year before my life completely fell apart in April of 2014 so I was working my ass off and there’s a ton of stuff for you to look at here.

Let’s give you guys a little run down of some of the highlights of 2013. Since I am headed to SXSW tomorrow that seems like a good place to start. I got to shoot SXSW Film portraits for the LA Weekly & Village Voice. I always loved doing this and my favorite shot that year was of Brie Larson and John Gallagher Jr. for the movie Short Term 12. The picture got even better when Brie won a Oscar a few years later. I also got a really fun group portrait for the launch of the YouTube channel JASH featuring Sarah Silverman, Tim & Eric, Michael Cera and Reggie Watts. I had the opportunity to meet Paul Walker before he died and talked cameras with him which was surprisingly cool. After the Film Fest ended I covered a big week long party for Sailor Jerry and got some really fun stuff as well.

In 2013 I got to cover some other really stuff like the Indy 500, Hannibal Buress’ 30th birthday party,  Friday the 13th tattoo fest in Dallas and another music festival in Austin, Fun Fun Fun. Fun Fun Fun is probably my favorite festival of the year and I got to see Flag and Body Count and Sparks and a bunch of other stuff I actually wanted to see. I covered my usual stuff too like the AVN Awards, Gathering of the Juggalos and Fool’s Gold Day Off where I shot some great stuff of Migos before they took over the world.

I obviously shot a ton of babes as well. I started shooting for Hustler in 2013 and shot some great stuff of Stoya and Charlotte Stokely for them. I also shot some hilarious portraits of Chuck Palahniuk in a sex shop. But more importantly than all of that was my Route 66 trip that started out as a small Kickstarter to pay for some of the trip, to a 31 day adventure that ended up as my first book, a web series, and my first LA solo art show. That trip and the resulting book was a big life highlight.

When I was in Vegas last week for the AVN Awards I had to stop by the WoodRocket 5th anniversary party. WoodRocket is the completely insane adult film company responsible for ridiculous porn parodies like Hamiltoe and Dick & Morty. The company is the brainchild of my friend Lee Roy Myers who once made a Simpsons porn parody where he painted all the actors yellow. Lee Roy and his team make so much weird, brilliant shit and have managed to make a living through sponsorships and selling merch without having to actually charge for their porn. The WoodRocket tagline is “The future of porn” and they are probably right.

When WoodRocket first launched I sat down with the WoodRocket crew and pitched a road trip video series. “Road Strip” helped me pay for my Route 66 road trip that led to my first book “Get Your Kicks”. If it weren’t for WoodRocket I never would have been able to do the trip. Years later I went on a West Coast road trip I shot a photo series that was sort of a continuation of Road Strip, just in still form. One of the girls I brought with me was April O’Neil who is a big part of the WoodRocket team, both starring and directing stuff for them.

Anyway, I love these guys (I had dinner with them instead of going to the actual AVN Awards) so I had to hit their 5 year anniversary party. They turned their studio into a museum to all their weird props and did some of their web series live including Topless Girls Reading books. Unfortunately I could only stay for about an hour so the gallery I posted is mostly just photos of the museum and a handful of party photos. Fortunately I did manage to get my friend Kasey Warner topless on a giant Nintendo console which was my only goal before I left. Oh, also my hero Lloyd Kafuman was there so that ruled.
