In this weeks New York Times Magazine there is an article by Virginia Heffernan on where technology is leading us. The illustration that accompanies this article is almost identical to the alternate cover to The Gaskets second album, Loose Change, which just happened to be photographed by me.  Let’s compare:

See any similarities?  Or is it just me?  Honestly it is probably just a really weird coincidence, The Gaskets did send the Times a copy of the album.  I just think it’s  pretty unbelievable.

Gaskets week ends with their appearance at Trash. It was a CMJ night and Voxtrot DJ’d. Teddy from the Gaskets sang two songs and I passed out Gaskets DVDs to everyone. I produced this DVD. It took a year and a half of my life. I gave out 45 of them if you include the one I gave to the girl who yelled at me at Kellogg’s Diner for cutting in line. I was just stressed out trying to make sure everyone saw Teddy perform. A bunch of my friends missed it because they are assholes, but I think it went over pretty well. Anyway, most of the photos have people holding the DVD which will be available in the DBB Store once I get it together. If you got one of these DVDs please watch it and let me know what you think. I am pretty late with these photos sorry.  They are not very good anyway.  I didn’t shoot much and their set was cut a bit short.  Sorry, no excuses.  This was the first time I had seen them as a 5-piece; it was great.  They opened for HIM which was very weird, but we didn’t actually stick around for them so I am not really sure how weird it got.  I am sort of exhausted so I will just leave you with the pictures.

Also, I have the Gaskets photos from Wednesday ready to go up, but I have to run out right now so they are going to have to go up tomorrow. Sorry to fucking up, it has been a busy week and I have not been sleeping well, but I have been laying in bed all day not sleeping. So yeah, check out the shirts. Special thanks in order of appearance to Kate, The Just Friends Poppers an Lockers, DJ Lauren Flax and Jessica Leech who could possibly be one of the hottest people I have ever met in a bar. Also, there are a few photos of Pete Holmes who is one of the funniest comedians on earth. He wasn’t wearing a shirt, but he was hanging out with Kate when I was taking her photos.

So Brad Walsh is having a nightlife awards think over at Junk-Mag. It would be real cool if you could vote for me for best nightlife photographer, but I would probably just vote for Nikola if I were voting, so I can’t really ask for too much.

I am going to have some updates in the morning. I had a pretty bad day because the Gaskets got bumped from our show Friday. Evidently all the shows were running way behind at the Blender after parties so they dropped all the openers. At least we still got paid. If anyone wants us to play a show for some reason tonight, let me know. We will be at Trash per the flyer below (click to enlarge).  Speaking of Trash my friend Kristine pointed out that I forgot to link the photos from Trash last week.  They are here.  Sorry.

Lastly I just wanted to say Happy Birthday to my friend Daniela who let me eat some of her birthday cake. She was also the only person I took a photo of tonight.

Oh wait, no.  That is just one of the many lovely celebrity porn related keywords my keyword algorithm program recommends.  It never tells me to blog about anything interesting…  just Meg White Sex Video this and Pam Anderson Sex Tape that.  I still get comments every week about the nude Vanessa Hudgens photo I posted months ago.  Anyway, I just needed a subject heading.

This post is actually about how I am not going to be posting anything today.  I am dealing with a full band staying with me and trying to find practice space and bullshit like that.  Then just now we get a call saying that our show on Friday is canceled and everyone took a week off of work for one day of rock music.  So I am pretty depressed so I am either going to sleep or going to the movies.  I have Gaskets photos from last night, but I would have tried harder if I knew they were the only ones I was going to be shooting.  We still have a thing on Friday at Trash, but that might be a bit up in the air if Teddy tries to go back to work tomorrow.  We shall see.

So yeah. I’ll be back tomorrow.  Oh and also because of this I am going to get to go to Adult Drawing on Friday and so Saturday I’ll have a bunch of naked girls for you to ogle at.

Gaskets Things Of Note In Preparation Of A NYC Take Over To Begin 10.17.07

1. The Gaskets Are Playing CMJ… 3.2 Times.
a. CMJ Showcase: October 17th, Wednesday, 9PM, @ R Bar
b. Blender After Party: October 18th (Wednesday night), 12:30AM @ Gramercy Theater
c. Blender After Party: October 20th (Friday night), 12:30AM @ Gramercy Theater
d. Teddy is going to be performing one song Friday night at Rififi around 2AM. This is going to be sort of an after party for us. We will be giving out free DVDs as soon as we make it over from the Gramercy show.
All these shows require a CMJ pass except the party at Rififi (1st ave and 11th). Also the R-Bar show you can buy tickets to, but I am not sure how much they are.

2. The Gaskets website has been completely redone. The site is a work in progress an we will be updating it constantly over the CMJ week. We have switched to a new blog format which will be less about promoting our band and more about what we are doing and what our friends are doing creatively. We will be working with friends and artists to keep our site ever changing and consistently more than just a website to sell the band; we will leave that up to the MySpace.

3. The Gaskets MySpace page has been redesigned and now features demos and live recordings of new songs.

4. The Gaskets finally got some new T-Shirts. The shirts are printed on American Apparel T’s and are available in grey/blue and brown/white. They are available in both men’s and woman’s cut shirts.

5. Did we mention that the Gaskets now have a drummer, guitarist and bassist? Yup, that’s right the Gaskets are a 5 piece. This is going to be a very different, yet still insane, Gaskets. They have played two shows going into CMJ and have been sounding amazing.

6. Don’t believe us? Listen for yourself. We have uploaded a full set of Gaskets songs performed just two weeks ago in Richmond, VA.

7. The Gaskets are releasing a new video directed by Lena Dunham the first week of each month for 6 months starting with October. You can check out the first video here.

My friend Jamie was kind enough to model the new Gaskets t shirts for me. I seem to hang out with her more than anyone these days. She texts me every day and we meet up at some party and we talk for five minutes and then repeat that every day. Yesterday was my first time hanging out with her one on one, which was nice, and then she made me dance which I never do and it was way fun and I was crushing super hard. Then she got drunk and ignored me and made me go to Annex where I sat alone in the back and got really depressed, but I couldn’t stand up cause I had been awake for 40 hours. So I went home and took a bunch of sleeping pills which gave me the idea to text every girl in my phone book trying to get them to come over. But then I just umm… relieved myself and tried to go to sleep. I woke up an hour later to a bunch of confused texts from people who I hadn’t talked to in a month and a few from two girls who were standing next to each other when they got my texts and were understandably pissed off. This then depressed me so I took a long bath and wrote a blog. Then I watched the Wire and that cheered me up so I deleted the blog, which I am POSITIVE was the only good move I made all last night. Then I slept for 4 hours and got up and watched the Dolphins lose their 6th game of the season. I finally got some sleep almost 2 days after I last woke up.

So yeah, here are the outtakes from the shoot. I had planned on shooting in a bar, so I only brought my on camera flash. Had I known we were going to shoot in her apartment I would have brought my lights and they probably would have looked much different.

The CMJ Music fest is quickly approaching and to celebrate I am going to be posting a lot of god damned posts about the band I manage, The Gaskets.  I am going to post several new Live mp3s this week as well as debut their new website, inform you of shows and plug our new t shirts.  It is all very exciting.  I took photos with my friend Jamie last night to advertise the girls shirts and the outtakes are going to be up in the next post.  Some of them are pretty sexy.  Once I get photos of the guys shirts we will put them in the store and you can buy them and it will be oh-so-exciting.  So… you want to see the Gaskets for yourself?  Well Wednesday you will have the chance.

The show is free if you have a CMJ badge.  I am not sure how much actual tickets are, but I am sure it’s way worth it.  The Gaskets were just two guys, but now they have 5 guys, and may be even better.  To listen for yourself please download their hit Easy Life as performed by a real actual band like thing.

Also the Gaskets are going to be playing two after parties.  We are playing the Wednesday one as per the below flyer and we are playing the Friday one as well, it is just not on the flyer.  These shows you can only get into with a CMJ badge.  I have a few guest list spots, but you have to have a damn good reason for me to give one of those out. Yup Yup.

Lastly, Teddy the lead singer of the Gaskets is going to play one song to track around 2AM at Trash on Friday.  We are going to be giving out 50 live DVD’s at the Trash party, so now you have even more of a reason to go to that.
