Brain Delay @ Citi Field – 6.13.14

The New York Mets held “Zombie Night” on Friday to celebrate Friday the 13th. Of course they got the NYC Zombie Crawl people involved and since I decided recently  I want to try to put together a book of my NYC Zombie Crawl photos I figured a zombie takeover of a Mets game would be perfect for the book. Unfortunately right as I left my apartment to head over to Citi Field it started pouring rain. By the time I got to my subway transfer in Queens it was raining so hard that water was leaking through the ceiling and on to the escalator. I was pretty sure the game was going to be canceled.

When I got there it was still pouring and I ended up getting drenched trying to get my ticket from head zombie Doug Sakmann. When we finally got in we found a small group of zombies, many of whom had already lost their makeup due to the rain. Doug set up a quick zombification station and hooked people up with some extra blood and guts. Still, the hundred plus zombies they were expecting was down to about two dozen and I am honestly surprised that many showed up. When the rain delay finally ended I went up to my seats and noticed that nearly no one was even in the upper deck of the stadium. There were probably only a couple thousand people in the whole place and instead of one big section full of zombies everyone just sort of snuck into way better seats around the stadium.

Essentially I traveled 45 minutes and got stuck in pouring rain to eat at Shake Shack and take handful photos of a dozen zombies. I watched two innings before getting the hell out of there. Not only is baseball tedious, but I have no investment whatsoever in the Mets or the Padres and it was nearly 10pm and I figured I could do something better with a Friday night. I did see a home run before I left which was kinda cool but not as cool as say eating a fried chicken sandwich with a cute girl which is what I did shortly after leaving the game.

So click here to see a few photos of the New York Mets Friday the 13th “Zombie Night” promotion at Citi Field.

2014 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show!

My favorite events to shoot are events that people don’t expect me to shoot, like One Direction or Comic Con. I also love shooting weird sporting events like the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest or the Indy 500 Snakepit or the Kentucky Derby infield. (Not that the Derby or the 500 are weird, but the parties inside the track are!) And of course I love photographing adorable animals, cause everybody loves photographing adorable animals, I mean that’s Instagram’s entire business model. So when I emailed my editor at the Village Voice and asked him if I could shoot the 2014 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show I think he was a bit surprised, but I really couldn’t think of a more perfect event to shoot.

Going in I didn’t know anything about dog shows that I didn’t learn from the movie Best In Show and after spending hours at the WKC Dog show I still have no idea what the hell is going on. As far as I can tell on Monday and Tuesday during the day they select the Best of Breed winners over at the Pier’s on 12th ave at 55th street, from there all the Best of Breed winners go to Madison Square Garden at night to compete in their respective groups. The groups consist of Terriers, Sporting Dogs, Working Dogs, Non Sporting Dogs, Toys, Hounds and Herding Dogs. Then on Tuesday night the seven winners of the groups battle for Best In Show.

The judges look at their teeth and their coats and then they run around in a line and then run around in a circle or something. I am sure they have some sort of system for judging but I don’t have a clue how it works. They should probably just vote for the most fun to play with or the cutest but I am pretty sure it doesn’t work like that. If I had a vote this dog would win ever year. In the end a wire fox terrier named “Afterall Painting The Sky” won. He was pretty cute but I was rooting for a giant bloodhound named Nathan. That dude ruled.

Anyway, I only shot on Tuesday, I spent about an hour at the piers and then I was at MSG all night. Even though I only covered about a fourth of the event I still shot nearly 1500 photos which I edited down to about 300 fucking adorable photos that you MUST look at or you are a soulless bastard. Holy shit these dogs are cute.

2013 DolfansNYC #MetLifeTakeover – 12.1.13

Yesterday my friend Michelle and I organized an event called the #MetLifeTakeover where we bought and sold 760 tickets to the Miami Dolphins Vs. New York Jets game at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. We run Dolfans NYC, the New York Miami Dolphins fan club. I mention this pretty regularly during football season, but you might not realize how big this thing we do is. During yesterday’s game you could hear us on TV and Marv Albert mentioned us when the Dolphins scored their first TD. After the Dolphins put the game out of hand most of the Jets left the stadium and all that was left was two sections in the nose bleeds and a few other Dolphins fans scattered throughout the stadium.

After the game Dolphins player after player mentioned us on Twitter and even the coach gave some love on his radio show to the Dolphins fans in the “cheap seats” who made the team feel like they were playing a home game. Being able to actually impact a game like that was a really amazing moment and yesterday was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. We even got the hashtag #MetLifeTakeover trending! I am so proud of my Dolfans NYC community and all the Dolphins fans that joined us from around the northeast.

But before all that happened we organized a pretty sweet tailgate party. We had the whole thing catered and PBR and Sailor Jerry provided the booze for the pregame festivities. We had rapper Solo D perform a bunch of Dolphins themed songs including one he wrote for #MetLifeTakeover. The Dolphins shipped us a MASSIVE Dolphins flag and we unfurled it in the parking lot while Solo D played. I had to climb on top of an RV to take photos. We had some guests including Dolphins CEO Tom Garfinkle, Dolphins legend Nat Moore as well as some people you have never heard of but was still pretty cool in the Dolphins world (Omar Kelly & Miko Grimes).

The whole event went off perfectly thanks to my friend Michelle’s insane organizational skills and I bought a bunch of inflatable palm trees so I pulled my weight as well. After the game we got back on the four busses we chartered and headed back to our normal Sunday home (Slattery’s!) for victory drinks. I was completely exhausted but it was a day I will remember forever.

Madame Rosebud Loves The Brooklyn Nets

Ages ago I went to Galapagos Art Space with Madame Rosebud to take some photos. I posted the first Rosebud set we shot but I wanted to wait a while to post the second set we shot and then of course I forgot about it. A couple days ago, I was going through all my unpublished photos to figure out how I was going to get all these naked lady sets up and I found a bunch of them that I forgot about including this shoot! Clearly I had to publish it right away!

As you can see Rosebud is a huge Brooklyn Nets fan and while my love of basketball was drained from me growing up a Washington Bullets/Wizards fan I still pretend I like the Nets too. I have never actually seen the Nets play and can’t name a single player on their team but if they ever make it to the Super Bowl I will vote for them.

Whatever the case, these photos are hot and they rep Brooklyn pretty hard which is always good since both of us live in Brooklyn and this set was shot in Brooklyn and currently I am typing this from Brooklyn. Shot out to my homies in Brownsville, RIP Biggie Smalls, etc. (I don’t have any homies in Brownsville.)

Click here to see all the NSFW photos of Madame Rosebud in and out of some sweet Brooklyn Nets gear!

Ps. There are a lot more photos of Rosebud on the DBB App. Get that shit already, someone needs to pay for my new tattoo!

DolfansNYC Halloween – 10.31.13

I know I told you I wasn’t going to bug you guys with too much of my Miami Dolphins nerdiness but these pictures are kinda great so just enjoy it. As I have mentioned like 200 times I (with my partner Michelle) run the New York City Miami Dolphins fan club, Dolfans NYC. We throw big parties at Slattery’s every time the Dolphins play but we really do it up for prime time games.

On Halloween the Dolphins played the Bengals and we threw a costume contest that was won by Mr. McGibblets although my amazing “Tired of Losing” costume was not eligible.  We also had DJ Tropic DJing, raised a bunch of money for breast cancer research and most importantly the Dolphins won with an overtime safety. Pretty fantastic night.

So go enjoy these halloweeny football photos. I mean it’s Sunday and all, what else do you have to do? Watch football?

Web Weekend X

In a growing list of posts you don’t care about comes a small gallery from my recent trip to Miami. I went down for the 10th annual Web Weekend, the nerdiest of all things in my life. Web Weekend is a yearly conference of Miami Dolphins web masters hosted by the Miami Dolphins. I am one of only four people who have gone to all ten of these things and the other three are named Dave.

I used to just go down every weekend for free tickets to a Dolphins game and a chance to tour the locker rooms and the stadium and get to talk to coaches and things like that. Things have changed in the last few years as I founded Dolfans NYC the New York City Miami Dolphins Fan Club with a woman that I met at Web Weekend. Our club has quickly become the biggest Dolphins fan club in the country and we have started big fundraising efforts for charity.

This year we have already raised $3000 for the Miami Dolphins Foundation and we presented the money to the Dolphins new CEO Tom Garfinkle. He was so appreciative of what we do that he invited us up to his suite to watch the game. The seats were amazing and Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew was watching the game a few feet from me and I was high fiving millionaires when the Dolphins scored. It was completely surreal and completely amazing until the Dolphins managed to lose and then it went downhill fast. Such is football.

Anyway, I didn’t take many pictures this year because I was focusing on promoting the DolfansNYC brand while we were down there and I have done this trip now ten times so some of it does get a little repetitive. That being said there are some pictures from the locker room tour, some from the meetings with coaches and players and former players and some more photos from the “Webby Awards” where our club ended up winning the award for best community for the second year in a row!

If you make it this far in the post I commend you on being curious enough about this weird part of my life to keep reading. Don’t worry, I will put up more girls tomorrow…

Housekeeping

I got a bunch of random small things to mention to you guys so I figured we would do it all in one post. It’s not very exiting content wise but I gotta get the word out. Let’s do this.

The big thing I need to mention is that my site works again. This site does massive amounts of bandwidth. This site gets around 100k visitors a month but the average visitor tends to spend a lot of time on the site and looks at a lot of photos so we are talking of MILLIONS of page views every month and every one of those page views has at least one picture on it. I was on a shared server and when I would get a big link or something my site would just stop functioning or move really slowly. On Monday my awesome host Constant moved me over to my own server so the site is super fast now and hopefully we won’t have any crazy errors popping up any more. They really hooked it up on the price but it’s still nearly twice as much as I was paying so if you dig the site and want to support it you can help me out by signing up for my app, buying me some film or you can email me about advertising or buying prints. Any of that would be awesome.

Secondly I should be announcing the release info for my Route 66 book tomorrow. I am just waiting on a flyer. I can give you some of the info now though. The book is called “Get Your Kicks” and the book release will be in LA at the new Mishka art gallery above their LaBrea location. There will be a big solo show to go with it. There will be a smaller NYC release at the Brooklyn Mishka store with free booze and stuff but no art or anything. I am so excited for this I can’t even tell you.  A few books will be available online after the releases and if you donated to the fundraiser they will be in your hands by the end of the month!

Thirdly I threw a big party at Slattery’s Midtown Pub on Monday for this DolfansNYC thing I run. It was Monday Night Football so we went big on it.  I know people hate it when I post Miami Dolphins photos on Driven By Boredom so I am only going to mention it in this post in case anyone is interested. The Dolphins got killed but we raised over $1200 for charity through raffles and ticket sales. It was pretty amazing and my dude DJ Tropic killed it DJing during breaks in the game. You can check out all the pictures here!

I also wanted to mention the B-Sides section of my site. I launched it a while ago but I haven’t really promoted it. I thought my site would be redone by now and the B-Sides are going to be a major feature of that, but we are way way way behind schedule on this thing and the B-Side blog has taken a back seat. I did update it the other day though with a really weird video from my friend Teddy Blanks that was directed by SXSW Film darling M Blash.  Check it out.

I gotta leave you guys with SOME content so rewatch this video about how awesome  and important I am. It’s the right thing to do.

Dolfans NYC Returns – 9.8.13

You might know that I am an insane Miami Dolphins fan and I run the NYC home for Miami Dolphins fans, DolfansNYC. We meet Miami Dolphins game and root on our team like crazy people. Sadly our bar, Third & Long closed it’s doors this off season and we were left without a home. Luckily we found Slattery’s Midtown Pub and they gave us a much bigger place to throw a party.

200+ people took over both floors of the bar and we even had some spillover at the bar next door. It was pretty amazing and everyone lost their mind and the Dolphins won. The bar gave us free shots. It was the best. It’s weird to think the most successful parties I’ve ever thrown are Miami Dolphins viewing parties.  I took a bunch of photos and you are about to get to see them.

But first, a quick apology. Sorry to post photos of Miami Dolphins fans. I of course won’t do it every week, but I like to get my Dolfans NYC crew a little love now and then… Now on to the pictures.

Click here if for some reason you want to see all the photos of a ton of Miami Dolphins fans at Slattery’s Midtown Pub.

Alexander Ovechkin

I left NYC for a few days to go watch a Washington Capitals playoff hockey game in DC which is odd because they are playing the New York Rangers and I could just see them in NYC on Monday but whatever. The game was awesome, the Caps won and I will be back in NYC soon, but I realized I haven’t updated my site in far too long. I have some boobs that could go up but I will save them for Monday or Tuesday. So I came up with an idea for a post.

Even if you don’t like sports, you have to love Alexander Ovechkin. Not only is he one of the best hockey players in the world, but he is also hilarious. He is an insane Russian man who when given the key to the city of Washington DC, declared that there would no longer be speed limits. He is engaged to a hot Russian tennis star and he has a missing tooth which makes him look amazing. I tell people who don’t like hockey about him all the time and I pull up a bunch of videos on YouTube to explain his greatness, very little of it having to do with hockey. I am gonna start with just some highlights to show you how awesome he is at putting a little piece of rubber into a net, and then after the fold we will get into the good stuff. Trust me, this man is fucking amazing.
