DBB Photos in BPM

I had some of my photos from South By Southwest posted in this months BPM Magazine. Actually their new issue might be out by now or something. I picked it up a week ago or something, but just got around to scanning it. Two of the photos I did not take and are strangely credited to me. I took several photos of Danny Masterson (aka MomJeans aka that dude from that 70’s show) but not the photo that is in this spread. I also did not take the image listed as Matt and Denise. But what can you do? Click the image below to see a large version of it.

Gaskets Photo Published

I managed The Gaskets for 5 years and during that time I probably took over 1000 photos of them… maybe more.  I have had a ton of those published in all sorts of magazines and weeklys and such.  In a recent article on the band for Richmond, VA’s Style Weekly I was asked for a photo of the band.  I sent them what is probably the best photo I took of them (at least best live photo) in all those years.  Style’s art director thought the photo wouldn’t print well and we argued back and forth and eventually I photoshopped the hell out of it until Teddy was glowing, and he accepted it.  Unfortunately, he was right, it printed way too muddy and didn’t look great.  Luckily, you can see the original here.  The published image is below.  Click that picture to see the full article in it’s newspapery form.

Cheating

While I am thumb nailing and watermarking the 800 images I shot Wednesday night in Orlando I thought this would be a good time to update you on this “how to cheat” video I made a while ago.

Since I posted it has been viewed over 17 thousand times and has 127 comments and been favorited 112 times.  It is my most successful video to date.  The comments range from funny to scary, with many comments from little kids telling me how successful they have been at cheating using my method.  When I made it, I was joking around and I posted it to a forum aimed at adults and I never really thought kids would see it.  Well they have.  Here are some testimonials.  I am a hero to bad 13 year old spanish students everywhere.

hahha i also was failing spanish, but used homeboy’s method and now im good! thanks dude!

wow, you obviously didn’t need to learn anything in school if you could think of that, fucking genius!!!!

It has been so successful it got a brief mention in an LA Times Article on cheating.

“In another (YouTube Video), a young man recounts his method of stretching a rubber band over a textbook and writing answers on it. When the rubber band isn’t stretched, his writing looks like harmless ink stains.”

I am pretty amused by the whole thing.  Incase you missed the video you can watch it below.

Sexpert.

I got interviewed for by a sex columnist named Sasha in Canada for a question someone asked about Alt-Porn. I am only quoted briefly, but I talked to her for an hour and a lot of her recommendation is based on some of my suggestions. It is basically a how to guide to “make it” as an Alt model. My suggestion was not to just do one site like Suicide Girls, but do several sites like Gods Girls, Burning Angel, and Deviant Nation. I stressed that a girl should have a strong brand image and only work with good photographers and to develop their own site. That’s where the money is made, when you own your on production and you have your own site. Check out the article which features this lovely quote.

“I had a chat with Igor… who is considered an expert in alt porn…”

So, it is not exactly Maxim Magazine certifying me, but I think I can till call myself an official “Sexpert”.

Wikipedia Update

Now that I uploaded a bunch of my photos to Wikimedia Commons people have taken it upon themselves add my photos to Wikipedia pages.  I had blogged about how I had taken the official photos for Agyness Deyn and Takeru Kobayashi.  But now, in a matter of two days I have taken the official Wikipedia photo for the following:

I also even have photos on the pages of Lance Bass and Ron Jeremy though not the main ones…  I think it is just a matter of time before I get someone to write a Wikipedia entry for Driven By Boredom.  I am now Wikifamous. Ph33r m3.

Not In Rhode Island / WTF?

I have recently fell in love with WordPress bullet points.  I am not sure why I never took advantage of them until the other day, so please allow me to abuse them today just to get it out of my system.

So I have two points of note for you today:

  • Firstly is some site news.
    • I am not in Rhode Island campaigning for Obama because I missed the bus.  I am going to go tomorrow though which would mean no updates tomorrow, but I did a pretty sexy auto update that I think you will like (assuming you are a mostly straight male or a lesbian/curious female).  So be on the look out for some of the greatest boobs ever to be featured on this site tomorrow.
    • I just got a gig shooting the Dim Mak/ BPM Magazine party at South By Southwest.  I will be joined by LA party bloggers Cobrasnake and RonysPhotoBooth who I have met, but not really worked with before.  So that will be fun.  Anyone who will be at SXSW let me know, I will have Friday and Saturday nights off plus all day Sunday.
  • Secondly I found the weirdest video ever online when google searching “drivenbyboredom”.  It is over two years old, so I am not sure how I missed it.  This consumer reports type internet show mentions my site around the 47 second mark.  It does not make any sense what so ever why I am mentioned in a discussion about bad Valentines Day gifts, but I am positive it has something to do with this page I made in 2001.

End bullet points.

Richmond Magazine

A while ago when I was in Richmond I photographed my friends going away party.  They are Will Carsola and Dave Stewart other wise known as Day By Day.  They moved to LA to do sketch comedy.  Richmond Magazine was at the going away party writing a story about the guys.  They bought one of my photos and published it by itself on the page.  It was nice to see one of my photos that big in print.  I’ve shot a couple covers and had a two page spread in a illegitimate music magazine, but other than that this is the biggest print work I’ve done.  Click here to read the article and take a gander at a bad photo of the magazine on my couch below.

Wanna Buy A Bridge?

I was looking at the first few months of Drivenbyboredom way back in March 2001.  My site got a big jump in traffic because when the Russian MIR space station went crashing back to Earth I pretended to sell it on ebay.  I made this ball of duct tape and wire and wrote up the description:

This is an actual piece of the Mir Space Station. It crashed and i fished it out of the ocean. I don’t know what it is, but its definitely part of the Mir. I am sure its worth thousands of dollars, but you can by it now for a MIR 15 hundred! HA HA! MIR! By the way, this is all a lie, it is actually duct tape and wire.

Anyway, this made the national news and was written up in the Register and Wired.  Ebay closed the auction when it got up to 15 thousand dollars.  It was also on some Canadian news program but for some reason the made it seem like I was trying to rip people off… very weird.   So that was my little 15 minutes and the start of a website that used to get a lot more traffic than it does now.

DBB Blog Review

Driven By Boredom just got written up at The Weblog Review.  They wrote up my site in 2001 (note that their site is so old they call it a “weblog review” and not a “blog review”… my spell check doesn’t even have weblog in it.) and gave it a horrible review which was completely out of date.  It kept coming up in google searches for my site so I asked them to rereview it.  A month or so later they did, to much better results.

I found Igor’s photos intriguing, and really enjoyed my stay here. I subscribed to the RSS feed. My only complaint is that I actually like his writing, and wish there was a little more of it.

I give Driven By Boredom a 4.5 and will my fat, old, lazy self will be back to visit again and live vicariously through his lens. Just try and remember your memory card more often, Igor.

And just for the record… I bought a new memory card that way if I leave my other one at home, my old card is still in my man purse… and I never go any without my satchel.   Read the full review here.
