Friday With Brooke Candy – 2.1.13

When I saw the Brooke Candy video for Das Me I quickly put her on my mental list of people I want to photograph. The video was so insane and super catchy and I figured her live performance would make for great photos. So when I heard that she would be playing at Santos Party House I figured I had to check that out. It had to be a weird scene.

Brooke Candy was performing at a Friday night weekly that is amazingly titled “Friday”. It’s a super gay, super wild party that made for some fantastic photos. I have always said that the best parties in NYC are the gay parties and Friday takes that shit to another level. Some of the weirdest fashions I have ever seen were on display. These 20 year old kids are putting some of the most bizarre queers in New York to shame. I cannot even get my head around a football jersey kimono. That’s just some future gay shit I don’t even know about, but I am totally on board. When Michael Alig gets out of jail he is going to be psyched. Oh, did I mention the disco penis?

Brooke Candy finally got on stage around two and while I was photographically disappointed (she performed in a hoodie and jeans) she actually put on a pretty good show and by the end of her 5 song set she had the crowd losing their minds. I was hoping she would be dressed in some cholo space stripper ensamble but I had good time and her fans more than made up for it.

Also, I just realized that the last event I shot was a gay party too, so this website right now is like porn awards, gay party, naked chick, gay party. I will keep that weirdness coming with another naked girl update Monday. It’s always good to confuse your websites sexuality.

Now click here to see the pictures from Frankie Sharp’s Friday featuring Brooke Candy at Santos Party House.

Blunderland – 1.26.13

I was hired on Saturday night to shoot a party called Blunderland at a spot called the Red Lotus Room. I had never heard of the place but when I walked in I was suddenly in a turn of the century opium den or something. Eric Schmalenberger  hosted a super weird night of singing, dancing, drag and burlesque performances. I really had no idea what I was in store for but it was all very photographable and weird which is exactly look for in a good event. Also nudity, there was a bunch of nudity. I would say this gallery is very NSFW unless your work is cool with Tigger dick. You have been warned.

Highlights included Darlinda Just Darlinda’s “Menstrual Show” a horrifying “red face” play on the minstrel show concept and The Pixie Harlots insane drag performance that I cannot even begin to explain. My friend David Slone sang and had a bunch of girls dressed like pirates fight each other and Eric’s performance of Creep by Radiohead was appropriately intense.  Generally I am not a fan of cabaret type shows but somehow I keep getting asked to photograph them and I have to say this was one of the most well put together events I have been to and if you are into this sort of thing it would be well worth checking out next time there is a Blunderland. If nothing else you will see some really wild shit and I am guessing you will have a good time. I know I did. I mean any party where three people who don’t know each other show up wearing sombreros has to be a good one.

Black Label Circus – 1.7.13

Despite my history of documenting the “EDM” scene for the last half decade I actually don’t like dance music. To me it’s just background music for a fun party. The only things I look for in a dance music DJ is someone who puts on a good show and packs a party with a fun crowd. One of my favorite people in NYC is Luca Venezia aka Drop The Lime of Trouble & Bass. T&B have been throwing awesome dance parties in Brooklyn for almost as long as I have lived here. So when Luca started experimenting with a musical genre I actually like, rockabilly, I was really psyched about it. I kept missing him play with a live band as Drop The Lime but last night I finally got to see his new rock and roll band, Haters.

Haters played a new rock and roll monthly called Black Label Circus at The Flat which is pretty much my favorite bar on Earth. It’s a block from my house and always a good time, especially at 3am when I am hungry and stop by on the way to get some food at the bodega down the street. I have never shot photos there but I hang out there all the time. In fact if you are ever there Tweet at me and maybe I will come down and say hi.

Haters fucking ruled and I can’t wait to see them play after more than four practices. I love good, not corny, rockabilly and Haters is that. Luca is a hell of a front man and they get a ton of sound from just drums and guitar. I am really glad he has started fucking with this stuff because maybe it will introduce a bunch of his dance music fans to people like Carl Perkins, Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran.

After Haters played a raw rock and roll band called Dirty Fences played and really killed it. They had a good crowd and people rocked the fuck out to their whole set. After that the rock and roll dance party continued with The Captain, JR Jailbat and Bad Lupo. After shooting a few NSFW pictures of Lena Marquise just to spice the set up I headed home to edit images.

Around 3am I decided I needed to get some food so I headed back towards the Flat and stopped in on the way to the bodega. I ended up leaving close to 5am, going to a friends house and I think I might have gone to sleep around 9am. I never even got any food. Woops.

It was a fun night and I saw a ton of people I hadn’t seen in ages including my friends Bianca and Nikki who happen to both be retarded hot and half naked doing some rock and roll go-go dancing for the party.

So go look at the photos of Haters, Dirty Fences and a bunch of cute girls from Black Label Circus at the Flat already.

Neon Beach New Years – 12.31.12

New Years Eve was total madness and since then things have been a bit crazy too. I don’t really drink but on NYE I had more than 15 rum drinks and I managed to mostly hold it together all night Since then I have had some issues. I woke up on the 1st after only a few hours of sleep in all sorts of pain. I ordered breakfast and then took a bath hoping my back would start hurting. I immediately fell asleep and woke up 16 hours later. Woops. Then yesterday when I sat down to edit these photos I managed to delete them all and had to spend hours recovering images. So that brings us to day three. I finally am ready to show you some damn photos.

The first thing I should probably mention about this party is that Cam’Ron never showed up. It was due to some miscommunication and poor negotiation but whatever I was too drunk to even care. There were more DJs than you could imagine doing their thing. The event lasted from 10pm to 10am and my homie Nick Gazin was already getting off when I got there. Cool Hand Luke, Krunk Pony, Dances With White Girls, Trouble Andrew, Prince Terrence and DKDS all took turns while I was there.

A surprise performance from Chippy Nonstop was fucking insane. That girl is out of control. At some point during her set I picked her up on my shoulders and ran around the crowd while she rapped. When I put her down I noticed my arms were covered in blood. I looked at her legs and they were bleeding from several places. I have no fucking clue what happened to her but when I woke up the next morning I still had her blood on me. That’s punk rock.

Anyway, the night was wild and I had a good time despite the Killa Cam no show. But fuck all that, people got wild, they had a good time and hopefully you guys will enjoy the pictures. Happy 2013 motherfuckers.

Thing X Launch Party – 12.6.12

ThingX.tv is a new website, presented by Adult Swim and from the former staff of the Onion. When the Onion moved to Chicago the Peabody Award winning New York staff stayed in NYC and started Thing X. My brother used to work for the Onion so I know a bunch of the new Thing X staff and I was asked to come out and take photos.

It was a pretty amazing event. There was so much hilarious branding everywhere, even in the bathrooms. I took a bunch of photos of the weird stuff they had everywhere so check that out. The performances at the show were pretty great with Cerebral Ballzy and El-P headlining. It was pretty weird seeing them play to a small crowd of TV executives and comedy writers. I think that made it even better of a show. With a giant X mascot named Thingy roaming around the whole thing was really surreal. One of my favorite comics Eugene Mirman performed as did Michael Che. They were both very funny which is important in a room full of comedians. Tim Harrington from Les Savy Fav DJd in between sets and The Jonny Lam Band opened the evening. Oh and Joe Garden hosted and did not get naked as was promised.

The Other American Dream – 12.3.12

My friends over at the sex art cult that is Darling House want to turn their website into a print magazine so the founder JM Darling decided to throw a fundraiser. He asked his photographer friends for some photos to sell for extremely cheap prices and then threw a big party at Galapagos Art Space around that. I donated eight images because I am always down to support perverted causes and I was excited to be included in a show with some of my favorite photographers like Steve Prue, Bob Coulter, Corwin Prescott, Dave Naz and Tony Stamolis.

Aside from the art their was tons of performances. Bastard Keith hosted the performances and did some fantastic songs of his own. The amazing Stoya did two aerial routines, getting naked hanging upside down 2o feet in the air. Two of my favorite NYC burlesque performers, Stormy Leather and Madame Rosebud did several fully nude routines and included Darling House member Sovereign Syre in them. Eric Walton did magic that was not nearly as painful as most magic is, Brandon B told funny stories about terrifying gay sex experiences and the sex-comedy band The Reformed Whores did two extremely offensive country ditties. JM Darling himself told an amazing true story about how he and his entire family was murdered by pirates. I am pretty sure he should stop shooting naked girls and just write several books because his life growing up was far more interesting than any set of boobs.

The night ended with a discussion on sex work with Sovereign Syre, Stoya, Lux Alptraum, and Buck Angel. Sov led the discussion and Stoya talked about how the internet helped her become one of the biggest stars in the adult industry. Lux is the editor of Fleshbot, Gawker’s porn blog and one of my favorite websites. She talked about how she started combining her interest in sex and sex education with the internet from starting a porn site to writing about sex to finally taking over Fleshbot several years ago. Buck Angel is a man you should be familiar with. He was born a woman but had the most convincing sex change ever except for one thing… he still has a vagina. This guy who looks like a gay fantasy of a construction worker took down his pants on stage and showed everyone his vagina. It was pretty awesome. At the end of the conversation all four people on stage showed the crowd their vaginas, an amazing photograph that I totally missed because my leg fell asleep and I stood up and walked away from the stage about 3 minutes before it happened. Tragic.

The whole show was pretty amazing and the photos are extremely NSFW. The photos on stage are pretty awful because the lights were clearly controlled by a criminally insane person who kept it way too dark most of the time so I had to shoot at 4000 ISO and then when it was bright enough would shine super hot lights on the performers faces. It made for constant frustration and mediocre photos. But honestly none of that matters because what is happening in the photos is way more important than the actual photos. I assure you these photos are worth checking out.

Wale, Meek Mills And French Montana – 12.19.11

Girlfriend is gone. Thanksgiving is over. Time to get back to work. I have a ton of nude galleries to go up still but I posted two in a row so I wanted to try to post something that doesn’t involve boobs in anyway. I looked at my list of things I need to post and it was roughly 20 naked girl posts and one post from nearly a year ago that I somehow forgot to post. The photos have actually been on my website for months and I just never did a blog about it.

Last December I shot a Wale, Meek Mill and French Montana show for XXL Magazine. I don’t think the photos ever ran and I was waiting until I heard back from them before I published them. The check cleared 10 months ago so I figure I can post the pictures now. I actually barely remember the show but I know the press situation was a nightmare at the Best Buy Theater.

The event was a party for Power 105.1’s morning show, The Breakfast Club’s one year anniversary. You know these pictures are old because they are advertising for their two year anniversary party on the Breakfast Club website. It was also along time ago because I didn’t really know who French Montana or the Coke Boys were.

I was psyched to see Wale because I grew up in the DC area and so DC Chillin’ was the first real DC anthem I can think of since the Bad Brains Banned in DC. The video was shot at Ben’s Chili Bowl a restaurant that I have been going to for more than 15 years. It’s actually my favorite restaurant in DC and I took my girlfriend there over Thanksgiving. So yeah Wale was cool to see and Meek Mill killed it a little bit and I honestly don’t remember much more about the show because it happened 11 months ago. But hey, there are mediocre pictures of rappers for you to look at! Enjoy!

Trail Of Dead, The Coathangers & Hussle Club – 11.16.12

When I was in Chicago this summer I met this awesome band called The Coathangers. They are a really good band made up entirely of hot girls who also happen to be really good. I almost never buy music anymore and a couple days after I met them I went out and ordred two of their records. When I saw they were on tour I wrote down November 16th on my calendar. Yesterday was the 16th and I googled where they were playing and I saw that they were at Irving Plaza and they happened to be playing with both …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead and my good friends Hussle Club. I was psyched. I hit up the Village Voice and they got me a photo pass and it was on.

Hussle Club opened and they were rad as always. Seeing them in a place like Irving Plaza with great sound was awesome. They have a new 7″ single out and they gave me a new shirt. Score. Next up was the Coathangers. I was psyched to see them and they all remembered me and let me lurk about in their dressing room taking photos which was cool. They were awesome live even though for whatever reason they played in almost total darkness. I know Hussle Club asked Irving Plaza to keep the lights low for them but it didn’t make much senese for an up tempo rock band full of hot ladies. I got some okay shots anyway.

Finally …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead headlined and the packed crowd was psyched. I know one of the guys, Jason Reece, because he is an owner of Beauty Bar Austin when he is not being a rock star. He is a great dude and always went out of his way to make sure I had a good time in Austin so I was really excited to check out their band. I knew people loved them but I didn’t actually know what they sounded like until last night. They were great and I was glad I finally got to see them.

The whole show was a great time and all of the bands killed it so you can’t ask for much more. Unfortunately I had to deal with something so I had to leave about 30 minutes into Trail of Dead’s set. Still it was well worth the trip into the city and the Village Voice is playing me for it so everything came up Igor. Good times.

Brooklyn Vegan CMJ Parties Part 2 – 10.20.12

If you didn’t make sure you check out my post from Day 1 of the Brooklyn Vegan CMJ parties. Day two was more of the same… tons of rad bands at Public Assembly from noon to six and then an after party at St. Vitus from 8 until they kicked us out.

The big difference on Saturday was the free Sailor Jerry tattoos. Starting at 10am people started lining up to get a chance to throw a dart at a dart board to determine what free Sailor Jerry tattoo they would get permanently tattooed to their body.  Seriously, about 50 people got actual tattoos on them based on throwing a dart at a dart board. Matty No Times and Jeremy Sutton from Three Kings came by and did one after another all day. It was pretty amazing. I have a lot of Sailor Jerry tattoos myself but I don’t think I would have the balls to just throw a dart…

As far as the bands that played you can check out the line up here. Everyone was super psyched for Miguel for some reason. It’s not that he wasn’t good, I just don’t get why a bunch of Brooklyn scene kids would smash themselves into a back room for an R&B singer who went on an hour late. Meanwhile I bounced to the other room to check out Brooklyn’s own Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire who rocked a smaller crowd a lot harder. Other highlights were Hunters, Endless Summer  (fronted by a girl I went to high school with) and Kitty Pryde who was pretty mindblowing. Also this Ratking band I am pretty sure my band played with in Harlem.

After that over at St. Vitus there was the Brooklyn Vegan – BBG official CMJ Showcase. BBG is the heavy metal blogger for Brooklyn Vegan and shit got real, real metal. You can check out the line up for that event here. I don’t know enough about metal created after 1992 to talk about the line up so I’m just gonna let you look at the pictures and I am going to go to a pumpkin patch with my girlfriend because halloween is metal as fuck. (For what it’s worth my favorite band was Royal Thunder.)
