The Vice Bottle Report

All the time I see people with huge shopping carts full of recyclable bottles and cans. I assumed most of these people were homeless, but then I started to wonder if people could make a living from recycling bottles.  It turns out you can’t… but you can make enough to eat and from what I can tell that keeps a lot of people from having to rob people to survive and keeps proud people from having to beg for money. They can actually work for it.

I wanted to talk to these people to find out more, but I didn’t really have a reason.  I had been talking to my friend Brendan Sullivan (DJ VH1) for a while about doing a project together after reading his private blog. His writing is outstanding and we have similar tastes in adventure.  I pitched him the idea for interviewing the bottle collectors of Alphabet City and then we pitched the idea to Vice.  They dug the idea so we went out all day once a week for about a month to talk to these people.  We found out a ton of stuff, and had some adventures.  Vice is publishing our tale on their blog every Tuesday in March.

Check out the first part of the story here.  It’s mostly an introduction, it gets progressively more interesting.

Pictures On The Converse Blog

I finally debuted a few of my secret 35mm photos that no one has seen yet.  I have been shooting roll after roll of film over the last 2 years and I haven’t shown much of it to anyone, but I was asked to contribute some photos to the Converse blog a long with a little interview.  I gave them some shots that I have taken over the years of random graffiti and signs that people left around New York for me to find.  I really wasn’t super happy with the shots they picked from the selection I sent them, but one of these days I am going to learn my lesson and only send shots I AM super happy with. Still, I am happy to have some photos up that are looked at slightly more artistically even if they are just photos of other people’s art.

Check the photos and my slightly awkward interview by clicking here.

PS. Speaking of my 35mm work, tomorrow is t he 9th anniversary of DBB and I have some big news about a 35mm project I have for you, so come back soon!

Nova’s DBB Tattoo

I recently talked my friend and tattoo artist Jess Versus to tattooing the Driven By Boredom logos on some of my friends. I had three people lined up to go yesterday but one had their car towed and one slept through her alarm after staying up all night. I was not very happy with this, but fortunately my friend and porn star Nova came to the rescue getting the DBB logo on her elbow in shiney pink and purple. Nova is of course awesome and you can see the mini NSFW set I did of her here and you can see her have sex with people for mere dollars a month on BurningAngel.com. Anyway, because yesterday was kinda a bust Jess told me she would hook up some more DBB tattoos in the near future, so if you want one, let me know.

Check out a flickr gallery of Jess’s work here.  If you want her to tattoo you she works at Glamour Garage in Williamsburg. She is awesome.

And lastly, if you want to see more pictures of Nova’s DBB tattoo, and more pictures of other people with DBB tattoos, please click here.

New Event Portfolio

So I am trying to book Sundance gigs this year so I made a makeshift event work portfolio. I created eventsbyigor.com two years ago to book a Sundance gig, and I finally updated it with some halfway decent photos.  I got gigs at Sundance the last two years so let’s hope we can pull it off this year too.

So this site is very hastily put together and a bunch of it is just celebrity bullshit, but I figured you guys might want to check it out anyway.  I am not sure why I picked the shots I did exactly, but it is some of my better, more commercial (as in not naked) event work.  One of these days I will redo it with an actual best of the best gallery and a design that isn’t horrible, but for the moment this will have to do.

Click here to check it out.

Introducing Hussle Club

Prince Terrence has been sending me tracks from his new solo project Hussle Club for a few months now but I just noticed that he finally got his MySpace page up and the word is he’s looking for a bad ass female drummer. It must be weird for Terry to search for a drummer considering his drumming has been making bands like Young Love, Santigold, Major Lazer, HeartsRevolution, Spankrock look good for years. With a resume like that added to his reputation for killing parties from the DJ booth you know that Hussle Club is going to be huge.

Evidently I have signed some sort of blood oath I was not aware of and can’t release any downloadable tracks until they do an official release, but as soon as they do you will know about it. In the mean time you can stream songs on his page and check out a Felix Cartel remix over here.

Plus as a bonus, I did a reedit of one of my shots of Terry to fit the black and white Hussle Club aesthetic.

Dolfans NYC

I told people I would stop talking about football on here and Twitter for a while and the Dolphins had a bye so I held up my end of the deal for two weeks, but today three Dolphin events came together requiring a post.  I am sorry, but it had to be done, and when you watch the video below you will probably never be able look me in the eye again.

So let’s start with the easy one.  It’s Sunday and my Dolphins are playing the New Orleans Saints which somehow appear to be the best team in football right now.  We will probably lose, but if we win, I will probably be wearing my Dolphins sweater every day for the next week.  I can’t wait till 4:15PM.

Second Dolphin related event was that Daniel Baxter came out to our last game against the Jets because he lives a few blocks away from Third & Long the sports bar where we hold our Dolphins watching parties.  You have seen a bunch of his nightlife films on here and I asked him to bring his camera. He took a lot of footage of me losing my shit in victory.  He also filmed us a few weeks ago when we lost a game we had every right to win. I also lost my shit then.  Hopefully, he is going to combine the videos into some sort of sad documentary on the mental illness that is my obsession with the Miami Dolphins. In the mean time he sent me a little clip from the Jets game. The sound is pretty fucked up, but let’s just say if you know me at all, this is not something you want to miss.  For those of you who don’t know me, I am the guy who is screaming at the camera.

Thirdly today is the launch of DolfansNYC.com.  It took me months to convince four separate people to build a website for me for free.  As of a week ago I didn’t think it was close to ready and our second designer was getting married and had to quit.  Fortunately the DBB web guy Thadd, and the new web guy of another unnamed site I run came in and saved the day.  Thadd got the site up this morning and we are victorious.  I am pretty sure you guys could not care less about this fan club and fan club blog I started, but if nothing else it will give me a place to talk Dolphins away from this site and leave you guys naked people and party pictures which is all you seem to ever want.   But on second thought… you should check out the site anyway.

Anyway, enjoy this crazy video with painful sound… It is the happiest you will ever see me:

My Grandmother’s Head

Several months ago I stumbled upon this website called SEND ME YOUR HEAD. The site is very simple, this woman Karen Schmidt is painting tons and tons of 3 inch by 3 inch portraits from photos. She puts up a portrait nearly every day and is asking people to send in photos so she can paint your head. Her work is great and I really liked the project so I sent her a picture of my 91 year old grandmother Josephine.  Months later I got an email from Karen letting me know that she had finally painted my grandma. I think the painting is awesome, and so should you.  Check it out below and then go to the site and send in your own photos to get painted.  I don’t see how you have any other choice.

Terminate The Tumor

My old friend Colin is sick. A few months ago he found out he had a stage 4 inoperable brain tumor. That is not good. His only chance now is to fight it with chemo and hope for a miracle. Colin, despite not hiring me at Starbucks many years ago, is a rad fucking dude. I have spent a lot of weird and hilarious times with him. I think the last time I saw him I watched the election results come in with him and his girlfriend Christine. I do not want him to die. You do not want him to die. He needs help. He now has website that is documenting his treatment. The goal is both awareness and fund raising. Chemo is not cheap. Not being able to work because you are too week to stand up is not cheap. Colin is selling “Terminate The Tumor” bracelets in the style of the Livestrong bands. Now while Colin has never won the Tour De France, I also don’t think he has taken steroids before, and I have watched him put a cigarette out on his arm which seems just as impressive.

I bought a bracelet but I am as broke as I have ever been in my life and I live 6 hours away so I am not in any position to help him, but I can link his website and ask my friends and fans to buy a bracelet or donate some money or at the very least, retweet this post (click the button in the upper left hand corner of this post), link his site or just tell your friends about it. Anything you can do would mean a lot to me, to Colin and to all his family and friends.

And since half you people just come here to see boobs, maybe I can help you out too. Years ago Colin and my friend Raechel were in some weird scavenger hunt thing and it had a bonus round. The bonus round was to make a tape of just weird fucked up shit with extra points for nudity and violence. We happened to have found a wire grill cleaning brush that happened to make for great entertainment. If you wacked someone with it, not only did it hurt like hell but it instantly started bleeding in a very amusing pattern. We thought that hitting each other with this could garner some points… and even more points if Rae’s giant boobs were some how involved. I never got around to doing anything with the video, but when I heard about Colin I figured this was the perfect reason to get it up, and use the traffic it gained to help murder the bullshit growing in my man’s head.

So, watch this very Not Safe For Work video, and then visit Colin’s Brain Cancer Blog and send him some damn money you trust fund hipster fucks. Xo.
