Flavorwire Extras

Before I went to Sundance my friend Leah emailed me about doing some pro-bono work shooting interviews for the Flavorpill blog Flavorwire. When I met her over 2 years ago she a contract employee for Fpill and now she is the managing editor Flavorpill New York. I am pretty proud of her. Anyway, that is not at all the point, the point was I didn’t know if I would have any time, but I thought it would be good to get them on my resume and get some celebrity shots in the process. I emailed the Sundance project head and told her I might be available… I never heard back from her. I talked to Leah later and she told me they had found someone.

When I got to Sundance I found out I was that someone. The absinthe I was working for loaned me out to Flavorpill to do some cross promotional shots. (Which is why you will notice some green hats in some of the pictures…) I have to give a shout of to my partner in crime the charismatic Bess Devenow who did all the interviews and wondered around Park City with me. I shot a lot of photos and obviously not all of them made the interviews so I figured I would post the best of the rest here.

Oh yeah, and two things to point out about the interviews.
1) During the Zach Gilford interview Paris Hilton decided take a break from whatever she was doing at the MySpace Cafe and come sit down next to me to have a smoke. It was the third time in 3 days that I had seen her. She was following me everywhere!
2) Bobcat Goldthwait is fucking amazing. I don’t think I have ever heard him talk without screaming. He still sounds the same, only less loud.

I know I posted these already but here are the links to the interviews:

Sundance!

This place is nuts. So much more fun than last year. I am completely stressed out but getting some good shots. I am working primarily for an Absinthe called Le Tourment Vert. They are the main spirit sponsor to the festival so we get a lot of access to cool things. Last night I was at a party at Tao with Sting, Paris Hilton and Russel Simmons. That was pretty nuts. I have shot a bunch of celebs; the three aforementioned, Amy Poehler, Kim Porter, Wesley Snipes, Guillermo del Toro, Jeff Dowd (aka The Dude), Monique, Kelli Garner, Jason Ritter, Brett Rattner, Aaron Paul and a few others…

Many of these images are being serviced to media and things so I can’t post galleries yet, but here are a few photos that appeared on the Flavor Pill blog. Flavorwire also posted some of my photos from opening night party, but I didn’t run my batch Photo Shop filter through them so they are all upsettingly dark.

So yeah, here are a few celeb shots to hold you over until I get to the rest of the photos in later updates.

Dim Mak Tuesday – 1.13.09

So last year when I was in LA I went to the Dim Mak party at Cinespace and I had a pretty good time, so this year I figured I would try to check it out again. Last year I sort of just talked my way in and it wasn’t a big deal. I invited a friend of mine who I had a crush on in high school to come with me. She was worried about not getting in or a line or something, but I was like “I talked my way in last year and I worked for Dim Mak at SXSW and I know a bunch of people there.” I also put us on the reduced list if we made it by 11 we could just get in for $5 and I was okay paying that. Anyway, we got there at like 11:05 and they told me the reduce list was closed. And I started trying to talk my way in and the guy was like “Oh wow, that’s amazing, go pay full price.” Then the bouncer told me I couldn’t bring in my bag because it was some how against dress code for a man to have a bag. “No flip flops, no men with bags.” So now I am arguing with another guy. And all the door people are now pissed off at me. Right then like a thousand flash bulbs go off around the corner and a flock of paparazzi are following someone down the street. It is Steve Aoki and Benji Madden. Steve pulled me in and the bouncers looked like dicks. Igor 1, Bouncers 0.

Anyway, the party was a lot of fun. Pace Rock DJ’d and Benji Madden played a few tracks while Steve was Djing. They killed it a little bit. I danced a bit even. I met some cool people and yeah, good times. It was funny to be in a room and read my twitter feed and see Skeet, Pace, Dan Oh and others Tweeting about the party. LA is good for Tweeting. It is also amazing for taking photos of people. Everyone is so damned excited to get their photo taken. I can’t walk 5 feet with out getting asked to take someone’s photo. I enjoyed that. I enjoyed that last year too. I also ran into Cobrasnake who I have not run into in years for some reason.

Okay, check out the photos from Tuesday. They are pretty fun.

ShiraGirl Featuring Devyn Simone From Real World Brooklyn

Back in September at Jessie Lee’s birthday I shot this little video of ShiraGirl whilst I was photographing them. It is their song Anthem and Devyn Simone of Real World Brooklyn was singing on the track.  I sort of forgot to post this video way back then but I am having some computer issues and I needed to get some update up while I am trying to figure out how to get my Miami photos online.  So yeah, enjoy this little video.   I have 4 photo updates and a bunch of little videos I could post in the near future.  Hopefully I will get some of that stuff done this weekend.

RIP Paul Newman

Good Lemonade, great movies.  A legend died yesterday at age 83.  Paul Newman was one of the forefathers of competitive eating.  Newman’s record of 50 hard-boiled eggs stood for many years until Sonya Thomas ate 65 eggs in under 7 minutes. Bad ass motherfucker who even looked in a sun hat.  You will be missed.

Girls And Boys – 9.10.08

DJ Mom Jeans AKA Danny Masterson was DJing at Arlo And Esme. His birthday was at SXSW at I was the photographer for the event he DJ’d on his birthday. I took a photo of him and Tokyo Police Club. I figured I should say hi. I was there for a bit, took photos of everyone, talked to some friends, met the tallest woman I have ever seen in real life and was ready to leave. On my way out I ran into Juliette Lewis who asked me to refer to her as Juliette Of The Spirit and to make sure to note that she was just an innocent bystander in all of this, just out for a quite night with friends. While showing her some photos, I accidentally hit her in the head with my flash. We talked about her forehead and miracle fruit and she hugged me. After at 10 minute conversation I was pretty much in love. My friend Kate was witness to the whole weird scene and said we would make a good couple. Clearly. Anyway, there are some pictures of all this over here. So look at them.

Rock ‘N’ Roll Never Looked So Beautiful – 9.8.08

So Semi Precious Weapons, Mac, and Page 6 all got together and threw some sort of shin dig at Rebel. I got off work an hour early so I could show up. I took some really bad photos of SPW but then I hung out for a while and I got some okay shots and good times were had. Evidently the cast of the Real World Brooklyn was there and it was suggested by the powers that be that I get some shots of them. However, they would not let me take their photo as they were under contract and could only take photos with these little cameras that Mtv had given them. They seemed to feel pretty bad about this, as I am sure anyone who would go on the Real World must love having their picture taken. One of them whispered to me that I should just take photos of them when they were dancing and stuff. At some point Justin from SPW came over and started a scene of some sort and Mtv started filming and pretty much everyone in the place gathered about this little corner of the room and it was packed and crazy. Nicky and I were standing over there and got some shots of the madness. At one point I got Justin to crowd surf. I turned to one of the Real World guys and said “Something insane needs to happen now…” But it never really did. It ended as quickly as it began, but there was a lot of making out and screaming. Despite my hatred for reality television I had a pretty good time and they all seemed like decent people. I mean I am sure if I ever see an episode I will hate them all, but in real life they were pretty fun. Anyway, I just hope I don’t show up on TV as I am a fucking mess these days. I think I need to perm my hair, 70’s porno style. Anyway, the photos are here. I need to go to sleep.

Update: Evidently in the top photo a possibly gay, possibly engaged mormon named Chet Bannon Cannon is kissing a previous winner of America’s Next Top Model named Whitney Thompson. Evidently this is important enough to warrant coverage from Gawker and the Daily News. Fun. Update again: Gothamist and Village Voice… Since I work pretty regularly for the voice, I gave them a little interview, so you should read that.

Lilly Allen’s Boobs

While I don’t seem to be able to update my site right now, I can always make time for a half naked celebrity jumping off a cliff. Here are a bunch of naked photos of Lilly Allen just chilling.

On the site note. Not only do I not have any time to blog, but I am having severe problems with my gallery uploading software. I am not sure what is going to happen with that.

I am staying in tomorrow night to work just on the site and figure things out and catch up on sleep. So just hold your horses until then. I will get us up to speed some how. I love you tenderly.

A Few Of My Favorite Things: Charlton Heston SciFi Movies

A Few Of My Favorite Things is a series that appears most weekends on Driven By Boredom. Each week I talk about three of my favorite things from a specific genre of film, music, or something else all together. Each favorite thing is accompanied by a video and a description of why it is one of my favorite things. Click here for more favorites.

So Charlton Heston died yesterday. This is tragic. I know most of you probably think of him as this crazy right wing gun nut, but I love him. He is honestly one of my favorite actors. Yes, he was amazing in his historic and bible epics, and yes he played a convincing Mexican in the second best Orson Wells movie, but I love him for his SciFi. I am not normally a science fiction fan. I own about 1000 movies on DVD, but my science fiction section has only about a dozen movies… of those five have Charlton Heston movies… and three more of them are Planet Of The Apes 3-5 which while do not have Heston in them, could not exist with him. So today, in honor of the man I am going to break down my three favorite SciFi movies starring Mr. Heston, which coincidentally also happen to be my three favorite Heston movies in general. Keep reading after the break.
