2021 #MetLifeTakeover
This is going to be a very quick reason for two reasons: 1) I have a bunch of shit before I go to DC for Thanksgiving and 2) I am pretty sure you don’t care. But for the few of you who do, enjoy… (Editor’s note: I am actually in DC now, I didn’t finish this post in time.)
Quick recap for those who have found this site recently: aside from being a photographer I am 1/2 of the founders of Dolfans NYC, the world’s largest Miami Dolphins fan club. We are also a non-profit organization that has raised probably close to $100k for charity over the last decade plus. It’s one of the coolest things I do with my life and I hope some of you appreciate it even if you don’t care about sports or the Dolphins.
Anyway last weekend was our big yearly event, The #MetLifeTakeover. We buy hundreds (sometimes over 1000) tickets to the Dolphins vs Jets game and we resell them with the money going to charity. We also sell merch and do raffles and throw a HUGE tailgate. We have a musician named Solo D perform every year and a DJ (DJ Syckturtle) and food and a huge bar (thanks Sailor Jerry) and we always have people from the Dolphins come out. This year the Dolphins sent their podcast network out including former Dolphin, and one of my favorite players growing up, OJ McDuffie.
The night before we also had a party at our bar Slattery’s Midtown Pub and that was a blast. We had a live auction for 3 items that raised over $1000 alone. Also that night for some reason my herniated spine felt pretty good and I was able to be on my feet the whole time. I was not so lucky Sunday so I didn’t shoot a ton of photos of the tailgate, but it was still a good time.
The whole thing was a great success, the Dolphins beat the Jets and our hashtag blew up on Twitter. We even got a little write up in the Miami New Times, which is a paper that I have actually shot for a bunch of times when I worked for their sister paper the Village Voice.
Okay, that’s enough. I got work to do.
