Electronic Daisy Carnival – Day 1 – 6.25.10
So I meant to get these up yesterday so I could get day two up today and have them both up before the weekend but clearly that is not going to happen. Still, you at least get day one up nice and early. I took a short nap at my friends hous but I basically got home at 11am and am ready to work for a couple hours before I pass out again. So let’s get it on.
First of all, I had no idea what the Electric Daisy Carnival or EDC even was. I got a Dim Mak email that they were doing a stage and a bunch of people I knew were on it so I decided to check out the fest. I saw that a bunch of huge acts were playing so I tried to get on the press list since I was gonna be in LA then anyway. I still didn’t realize the magnitude of the thing until I talked to JFK from MSTRKRFT about it and he told me it was the craziest shit he had ever been to in his life. When MSTRKRFT tells you some shit is going to be nuts, its going to be nuts.
When I got to the LA Coliseum there were people everywhere, mostly wearing Hello Kitty backpacks, but it seemed like no more of an event than a Warped Tour or something of that magnitude. It took me about an hour to find the press entrance and when I found it I realized I was walking through the tunnel that the USC Trojans run out of before games. I walked through the tunnel and I just saw the most people I have ever seen in my life. The place was just filled with people as far as you could see. They were all half naked and on drugs and they wouldn’t let them on the field anymore. People were jumping fences just to get near the field. It was pretty fucking out of control. Oh, and that was just one of FIVE stages.
I’m not sure I really had a fun time. I mean, I think you have to be on a lot of drugs to enjoy some shit like that. Also it might have been fun if I could have flirted with girls, but I had no idea who was under 18 and who wasn’t so I decided to play it safe. I asked this one flirtatious cute girl if there was any chance she was 18 yet, and she earnestly asked “No, are you 18 yet?” Good God. I tried to hang out with some friends but I got no cell service so that was a bust. I really have just tons of shit to say about the whole fiasco, but this post is already getting long and I will have another update about it tomorrow.
The one last thing I do have to mention is that I took 2800 photos in two days at EDC. I am posting over 500 pictures today and over 600 pictures tomorrow. These updates are fucking massive. Trying to pick out a few of the best images is going to take me 30 minutes by itself, but I really hope you enjoy looking through these, there is some crazy stuff in here. It’s probably not really safe for work, but there is nothing specifically offensive other than adult humans dressed as little children which is pretty upsetting. Enjoy the show.
