I constantly see flyers for the Bootie NYC Mash-Up party in NYC, but I have never been.  Personally I am not a big mash-up fan.  I think most of they time they are horribly done.  That being said, when they are done well, they can be amazing.  Bootie is a mash-up dance party in San Francisco that spread to LA, NYC, Paris and and Munich.  They just released their Best of 2007 mix which has some decent mash-ups on it, but two that I really loved.

The first track I really dug was Divide & Kreate’s mix of ABC by the Jackson 5 and Paradise City by Guns And Roses called Illiterate City.  Both of these songs are probably in my top 500 songs of all time and the idea that they could even be mixed together in any cohesive way is mind blowing.  I keep listening to it and while it doesn’t make me want to dance exactly, it does make me want to tell you to download it and rock out to it on your iPhone on the train or something.

The first is a mix of Toxic by Britney Spears and Rehab by Amy Winehouse.  It is called Detox which is fucking hilarious.  A lot of mash-ups come out of a great idea like that and then fall flat, but DJ Freddy does a great job.  This one you can dance too.  Listen to that shit now and spin it at your next party.    And I just wanted to dedicate this post to Britney who just got pulled out of her house on a stretcher which evidently is bigger news than Obama and Huckabee’s victories the Iowa caucuses.  America is with you, you crazy bitch.
